Privacy

We collect as little as we can. This page describes what the site actually does.

Readers

• You do not need an account to browse, read or download.
• Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how many people use the site and which pages they read. It sets cookies in your browser (_ga, _ga_*) and sends Google information such as the pages you view, your device and your approximate country. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. We do not sell this data or use it for advertising. Analytics is not used on the account, sign-in or password pages. To stop it, block cookies in your browser or use Google's Analytics opt-out add-on.
• Our own statistics: to know which pages are read, which sites send visitors, and what people search for, the site keeps daily totals only. No cookie is used and no IP address is stored. To count visitors per day it uses a code that changes every day and is deleted after two days, so no one can be identified or followed from one day to the next.
• To keep download counts honest and to prevent abuse, a salted, irreversible hash of your IP address is kept for up to two days. The IP address itself is not stored.
• Installing as an app: if you tap "Not now" on the phone install bar, that choice is kept in your own browser (local storage) for 30 days; nothing is sent to us. Once installed, opening Potha from your home screen is counted in Google Analytics.
• The site is delivered through Cloudflare's network, and its fonts load from Google Fonts. Those services see your IP address and follow their own privacy policies.
• Ordinary server access logs are kept for a short time.

Authors with accounts

• Account: your name, email and password. The password is stored only as an irreversible hash.
• Google sign-in (optional): if you choose it, Google gives us only your name, email address and a Google account number. We never receive your Google password or anything else from your Google account. You can disconnect it in Settings.
• New-book alerts: if you subscribe, your email address and language are stored, and nothing is sent until you confirm. If you have an account, the site's administrator may also add you to these emails. Every message has an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing deletes the address, and we keep only a one-way code of it so that you are not added again. It is used for nothing else.
• Cookie: one session cookie, potha_s, is set only when you sign in. It lasts up to 30 days after your last visit to your account, so you are not asked to sign in every time, and it is removed when you sign out. It is not used for tracking.
• Signed declaration: it contains your name, address and signature. It is stored where the web cannot reach it and only administrators can open it. It is never published. It is kept while the book is listed, and afterwards as evidence that the licence was granted.
• What becomes public: only the book's title, author name, description, cover and file. Your email address is never published.

Problem reports

When you report a problem with a book, your name, email and message are kept in order to deal with it.

Your rights

You can change your name in Settings. Deleting a draft deletes its files. To ask for your account and data to be deleted, use the report form on any book page and choose "Something else". We do not sell your information or give it to advertisers.
