About this book
The Argument from Causality challenges one of the oldest assumptions in the philosophy of religion: that causality ultimately supports belief in God. Through a dialogue between two old friends, a believer and an unbeliever, the book asks what happens if the argument from causality is accepted rather than rejected—and then followed consistently to its final consequences.
The book argues that causality may lead us toward a First Cause or Necessary Being, but not to the personal God of religion. It then follows the same principle into human choice and responsibility, arguing that a fully causal account of human action also undermines the basis for divine reward, punishment, and the Day of Judgment.
The result is a provocative reversal: an argument traditionally regarded as one of religion's strongest philosophical defenses may instead become one of the strongest arguments against religion, challenging two of its central beliefs—the personal God of religion and the Day of Judgment.
Written in accessible language rather than technical philosophical prose, the book presents its case through an extended debate in which both sides are allowed to challenge each other's reasoning.
